At Metal Supplies our quick turnaround Profiling Services are available to both our commercial and domestic customers. We appreciate that not every customer has a design office or CAD at their disposal, however we work hand in hand with our clients to ensure that you get exactly the quality that you require at the tightest tolerances.
Laser Cutting is not restricted to Stainless Steel, Aluminium or Mild Steel, we are also able to produce work in Titanium, Copper and Brass to name a few. We may recommend our quick turnaround Water Cutting service for some applications.
Our clients are familiar with having our Laser Cut Sheets and Plates produced for them, up to:
Flame Cutting ServicesMetal Supplies carry a wide range of pre-polished Sheets and Plates that are finished and ready to be cut in a range of PC1 (one side) and PC2 (both sides) poly Laser Coatings. This gives maximum protection to the surface of the metal as the Laser passes. It still comes as a surprise to some of our clients to find that Tubes and Box Sections are also available to be Laser Cut as well as open profiles such as Angles and Channels up to 8 meters long and 12mm to 15mm in thickness.
Although Flame Cutting is generally less expensive compared to other methods of profiling, sometimes it’s the only method that can be used. As an example profiling Mild Steel up to 300mm in thickness is common and can be achieved on very large area cutting beds up to 21m x 5m, this is simply unachievable by Plasma, Water and Laser Cutting.
There are some drawbacks to Flame Cutting and our customers often decide that they outweigh the small cost saving of using this method. Flame Cut profiles will show a striated structure on the cut edges and edge burring will occur. The cuts will also produce heat affected zones that (subject to the application) may need to be removed. The biggest drawback is that if you require very accurate, high tolerance profiles then Flame Cutting will not do, as the edge squareness is good but cannot compete with other profiling methods.
That said all our profiles are cleaned up to a very high standard and we can combine our Flame Cutting service with other complimentary services such as Rumbling (to remove burrs and sharp edges), Flattening and Lumsden Grinding Services. The most commonly requested complimentary service is by far Lumsden Grinding this allows us to reduce the plate down to achieve a very specific thickness whilst producing an appealing machined finish look to your profile.
Plasma Cutting was developed for materials such as Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Mild Steel and Copper where Flame Cutting was not desirable. It is perfect for very large area plates up to 18000mm x 5000mm, subject to material, and very thick materials between 3mm to 150mm in thickness, subject to the grade of material.
The beauty of our Water Jet Cutting Service over other methods is the precise control and no heat transfer. This is necessary for some grades of material (or very reflective materials) and where heat affected zones are unacceptable.
Here are some of the materials Metal Supplies can Water Jet Cut:
Sheets and Plates: 4000mm x 3000mm and up to 150mm in thickness.
Tubes and Box Sections up to diameter of 500mm and 3.7 Meters in length in:
