Other Materials

At Metal Supplies™ we have years of experience supplying a wide range of materials to industry-leading clients in a variety of sectors. Some of the less-common materials we stock and supply include (but are not limited to):

Inconel®

When heated, Inconel® forms a thick yet stable oxide layer that protects its outer surface corrosive attack, making it the perfect choice for high pressure/extreme temperature applications, where both aluminium and steel would succumb to thermal creep. Available in numerous grades with slight variations in each one’s chemistry, offering a spectrum of shifting characteristics.

Incoloy®

Easily fabricated using the same machines/processes as stainless steel and available in a variety of grades, Incoloy® is suited to elevated temperature, but less critical, applications, with its higher ferrous content and lower cost. With a high resistance to aggressive forms of corrosion, Incoloy® is ideal in aqueous environments.

Monel®

Monel® is a family of nickel-copper alloys (with small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon.) that boasts high tensile strength and strong resistance to corrosion. Its use is generally limited to applications where there are no cheaper alternatives because, compared to carbon steel, Monel® can cost over 3 times as much (and 5 to 10 times more than copper and nickel).

Titanium

Discovered in Cornwall by William Gregor in 1791, titanium is a shimmering, silver transition metal with a low density and high strength. It is highly resistant to corrosion in sea water, aqua regia, and chlorine. Titanium has the highest strength-to-density ratio of any metallic element and, in its unalloyed condition, it is as strong as some steels.

Hastelloy®

Hastelloys are a group of 22 individual highly corrosion-resistant metal alloys, often referred to by the umbrella term ‘superalloys’ or ‘high-performance alloys’. The predominant ingredient is typically nickel, with other alloying elements added in each of the subcategories in varying percentages, including: molybdenum, cobalt, chromium, copper, iron, manganese, titanium, aluminium, zirconium, carbon, and tungsten.

Tungum

A bronze copper alloy, Tungum is non-magnetic and has non-sparking properties which makes it ideal for use in high pressure gas (oxygen and inert) pipework systems. Tungum has a naturally-occurring oxide layer, which when exposed to reagents develops into a thin, protective coating, affording the metal significant pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in marine environments.

Chrome Molybdenum

Also known as chromium-molybdenum, chrome-moly or CrMo, chrome molybdenum is an alloy steel built for high temperature and high pressure services. Chromium molybdenum grades have characteristics that make them well-suited for numerous products used within construction and manufacturing sectors, plus they have a superior strength-to-weight ratio than steel, allowing for thinner walls or smaller diameters in pipe to reduce overall weight.

Cupro Nickel

Readily machinable, weldable and formable, 17-4 PH® is a martensitic, precipitation-hardening stainless steel that provides an outstanding combination of high strength and hardness along with excellent corrosion resistance. 17-4 PH® has good fabricating characteristics and can be age hardened by a single step, low temperature treatment. 17-4® PH is a versatile material widely used in the aerospace, chemical, petrochemical, food processing, paper and general metalworking industries.

17/4

Readily machinable, weldable and formable, 17-4 PH® is a martensitic, precipitation-hardening stainless steel that provides an outstanding combination of high strength and hardness along with excellent corrosion resistance. 17-4 PH® has good fabricating characteristics and can be age hardened by a single step, low temperature treatment. 17-4® PH is a versatile material widely used in the aerospace, chemical, petrochemical, food processing, paper and general metalworking industries.
