Stainless steel grade 316 (also known as 1.4401) is an austenitic grade of stainless steel second only to 304 in commercial importance.
Initially developed for use in paper mills, 316 stainless steel is now typically used in food processing and brewery equipment, chemical/petrochemical equipment, chemical transportation, boat fittings, threaded nuts and bolts, springs, heat exchangers and woven or welded screens for quarrying, mining and water filtration.
Metal Supplies™ supply 316 stainless steel in the following forms (amongst others):
Sheet |
Tube |
Bar (Round, Flat, Square, Tee) |
Plate |
Fittings |
Grade 316 is the standard molybdenum-bearing grade. The molybdenum gives 316 superior corrosion resistance compared to Grade 304, in particular, higher resistance to crevice corrosion and pitting, especially in chloride environments such as food preparation. It has excellent forming and welding characteristics and we press brake and roll form 316 stainless into a range of parts for the industrial, architectural, and transportation sectors.
